Appliance Repair Expert On The Best Dryer Brands

Choosing the perfect dryer brand may feel a bit overwhelming, especially since you have to consider different factors to make a decision.

This is why we partnered with one of our appliance experts, James Blackford. He has more than 16 years of experience repairing all sorts of appliances, so he can definitely help you make an informed decision.

In this section, you’ll find out what are his opinions on different dryer brands. He evaluated them based on their overall quality, drying performance, noise level, and price.

Overall Dryer Brand Thoughts

Choosing the perfect dryer brand can feel a bit overwhelming, especially because there are so many factors to consider, such as price, noise level, capacity, and more.

When talking about price, James says that cheap dryers typically come with a timer and very few features. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are of poor quality.

“Unlike most things, a cheap dryer from the right brand is a great choice. They’re typically made like dryers were made 20 years ago, which means they don’t have sensitive electronics that can short out or too many features you’ll never use”, he explains.

James also likes that affordable dryers typically have a longer lifespan than newer models. But, he recommends keeping in mind that they’re loud and can get too hot. “If you’re not throwing a Gucci sweater in there, there isn’t much to worry about, though”, he says.

But, if you’re looking for a quieter model, you should look for a dryer that matches your front-loading washer. “These dryers have extra braces built into them that help absorb vibration. Of all brands, LG dryers that match a front-loading washer are the quietest option” James explains.

Don’t forget to consider the dryer capacity. “In general, dryers with larger capacities are of higher quality”, he says.

Once James gave us his general advice, we asked him to give us his top recommendation. He told us LG dryers are his top pick.

“LG dryers have good quality parts and aren’t over-engineered. They typically have large capacities and are great at drying. Plus, they’re very quiet and require little maintenance“, James explained.

But, he says that it’s important to keep in mind that LG is more expensive than other brands and that not every appliance repair business will service these dryers. “If you live in a big city, you should be fine, though”, he says.

James also recommends Speed Queen dryers. “Hands down, they have the longest lifespan with little maintenance required. They are not over-engineered and offer a longer warranty than other companies”, James explains.

But, if you’re considering a Speed Queen dryer, you must keep in mind that this brand is more expensive and has a basic and simple design.

James also says that it may be challenging to find an appliance repair business that will service Speed Queen if you live in a small city.

While you already know our expert’s top choices and general recommendations, he also has some valuable insights on other popular brands.

James assigned a score out of 10 to each dryer brand, with 10 being the highest possible rating.

To make things easier for you, I’ve organized our expert’s opinions in order, starting from the best-performing brands to the worst ones.

LG

As mentioned before, our expert recommends LG dryers due to their good quality components.

Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance9
Overall build quality9
Noise LevelLow
Our expert’s top pick is LG. These dryers require low maintenance and are very quiet.

“LG makes some of the best laundry equipment. They are accurate, their temperature control is spot on, and they do a great job at drying”, James explained.

He also says that they are quiet and come with handy features. So, if you’ve got some money to spare, you should definitely check out an LG.

Speed Queen

James also thinks that Speed Queen is one of the best dryer brands out there. Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance8.5
Overall build quality9.5
Noise LevelMed/med-high
James recommends Speed Queen if you have a large family or use the dryer a lot.

“Speed Queen dryers offer an extended manufacturer warranty and are great for homes with high usage as they are durable and reliable” James explained.

Although these dryers can be expensive and have a simple design, James recommends them because they will easily dry the clothes of a large family without pause and are very easy to repair.

“There are multiple YouTube videos that show how to repair a Speed Queen dryer with minor difficulty”, James said. This is great if you like repairing appliances on your own instead of hiring a professional.

Samsung

69,500 reviewers rated Samsung as one of the best dyer brands But, what does James think about this?

Let’s find out!

Rating (1/10)
Performance7.5
Overall build quality6
Noise LevelMed/High
According to our expert, Samsung is a solid choice.

“Although Samsung dryers have too many features that people don’t really need, they’re a solid choice”, James says.

He explained that they can get louder as they age, but they’re very easy to repair with a YouTube video.

It’s worth noting that James believes that with Samsung dryers, the higher the price, the better the quality you can expect to receive.

But, bear in mind that this is not always the case with other brands!

Whirlpool

Although Whirlpool isn’t our expert’s top pick, it’s not a bad choice either. Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance7.5
Overall build quality6
Noise LevelLow/Med
According to our expert, Whirlpool is a safe choice.

If you’re looking for a reliable brand, Whirlpool might be the way to go.

“Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, and Amana are essentially the same, they are mostly mid-range units that perform well, and have a decent lifespan compared to some other brands, James explained.

He also recommends Whirlpool dryers because they’re typically quiet, which is great if you work from home or have kids.

Maytag

Maytag received a similar rating to Whirlpool. Let’s check it out:

Rating (1/10)
Performance7.5
Overall build quality8
Noise LevelMed
James believes that Maytag is a reliable and durable brand.

“Maytag and other similar brands, such as Kenmore and Whirlpool, have been and will continue to be the American workhorse of appliance brands”, James explained.

If you work from home, you might want to keep in mind these dryers can be a bit louder than other brands. But, despite this, Maytag has a better build quality than other similar brands.

Electrolux

Moving on, let’s see how James rated Electrolux dryers:

Rating (1/10)
Performance7.5
Overall build quality7.5
Noise LevelMed
According to James, Electrolux is a solid choice.

“Electrolux isn’t the best or fanciest brand, but it is a safe vanilla choice for a dryer”, James said.

These dryers are also reasonably priced. According to James, who rated the price on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the most affordable and 10 the most expensive, Electrolux dryers earned a 6.5 rating.

Amana

Here’s how James rated Amana:

Rating (1/10)
Performance7
Overall build quality6.5
Noise LevelMed/High
According to James, Amana can be a good choice for people who are looking to save some extra money.

“Amana is similar to Whirlpool or Maytag. It performs well and has a good lifespan”, James explained.

Plus, Amana dryers won’t break the bank either. James rated them based on their price on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the most affordable and 10 the most expensive, Amana received a rating of 5, which is great if you’re on a budget.

Frigidaire

James considers that Frigidaire is similar to Electrolux, but with inferior build quality and performance. Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance6.5
Overall build quality6.5
Noise LevelMed/High
According to James, Frigidaire dryers can be loud, but they’re a solid choice.

“You don’t see Frigidaire dryers too often, but they are a solid choice. They are neither the best nor the worst option available”, he explained.

They can also be a great choice if you’re on a budget. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the most affordable and 10 the most expensive, James assigned Frigidaire a 5.

GE

Moving on, let’s talk about the brands that James recommends the least. One of them is GE Appliances.

Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance6.5
Overall build quality5
Noise LevelMed/High
According to James, it’s not uncommon for GE dryers to experience issues.

“I don’t recommend GE Appliances. But, if I were to get one, I would opt for a cheaper model, as there are fewer parts that could potentially fail”.

James explained that GE has a bad overall build quality. You should also consider that these dryers tend to be a bit louder than other brands.

GE Profile

GE Profile is a sub-brand of GE Appliances, which is why James rated both brands similarly:

Rating (1/10)
Performance6
Overall build quality5
Noise LevelMed/High
James doesn’t recommend GE Profile dryers, either.

“When it comes to GE, their dryers are of poor quality. They have a tendency to run really hot”, James explained.

This is something you should keep in mind, as higher temperatures can potentially damage your clothes.

Even if you’re on a tight budget, James doesn’t recommend these dryers. While they may cost less upfront, they often require repairs that can end up costing you more over time.

Hotpoint

Hotpoint is also owned by GE, and, as you can imagine, James doesn’t recommend this brand either.

Here’s how he rated it:

Rating (1/10)
Performance5.5
Overall build quality4.5
Noise LevelMed/High
James doesn’t recommend Hotpoint dryers because they have a history of being problematic.

“GE, GE Profile, and Hotpoint are all the same dryer. I wouldn’t recommend these brands because they often experience issues and require more frequent maintenance”, James said.

While Hotpoint can be an affordable brand, James recommends looking for other options first.

Insignia

Unfortunately, James didn’t evaluate Insignia dryers because he hasn’t had a chance to work with this brand yet.

However, we found that most customers and industry experts have positive things to say about this brand.

It’s with mentioning that Insignia dryers can be a good choice for those who are on a budget, as they are known for being less expensive than those made by their competitors. They also have a simpler design and features, but this is not necessarily bad.

As James explained earlier, a dryer with fewer features and electric components can be less prone to failure.

Are More Expensive Dryers Better?

After reading James’s opinions on different dryers brand, it’s important to talk about a key factor that can influence your decision – price.

It’s common to think that the more expensive a product is, the better its quality. But, is this true?

Not necessarily.

We consulted with marketing experts to explain why this happens, and our findings were really interesting.

They agreed that marketers use different tactics, such as offering limited editions or partnering with celebrities, to justify high prices and make consumers feel they’re making a wise investment.

Sometimes they may even market a product as “premium” even when its features are not necessarily better than those of another model or brand.

For example, people tend to buy Apple products despite the fact that other brands, such as Samsung, often make phones with better or more advanced features.

They explained that this can also happen because owning expensive products can create a sense of accomplishment, exclusivity, and sophistication.

Now that you know how our minds can trick us into thinking that expensive products are better, it’s time to compare 69,500 reviews with the price of dryers.

Dryer model price vs customer ratings

If you focus on the blue line, you’ll notice that the expensive dryers received similar ratings to the cheaper options.

This shows that the price is not necessarily an indicator of quality. You can have a great experience with a dryer that is not so expensive.

But, remember, you need to keep in mind other factors besides the price when choosing a dryer brand.

The Brands With The Most Dryer Models

When shopping for a new dryer, it’s easy to get caught up in the number of models a brand has. After all, more models must mean better quality, right?

Well, not necessarily.

Dryer brands by number of models on Best Buy
Samsung, LG, and Whirlpool are the brands with the most dryer models.

I know, it may seem contradictory to say that having the most models isn’t an indicator of quality, especially since the graph shows that LG and Samsung are the brands with the most models and best ratings.

But, it’s not necessarily the number of models that makes them the best-rated brands. It could simply be that since they offer a wide product range, customers are more likely to find a dryer that suits their specific needs.

These companies also often have more resources than smaller brands, which allows them to offer more models. But, as I mentioned before, this isn’t an indicator of better quality.

The quality of a dryer brand should be evaluated based on other factors (such as reliability or customer satisfaction), rather than just focusing on the number of models they offer.

So, when shopping for a new dryer, try keeping this in mind and evaluating different things before making a decision.

How To Find Your Perfect Dryer

I know we’ve already analyzed more than 69,500 reviews and talked to our expert to know what are the most reliable brands, but you should also keep in mind other factors when shopping for a new dryer.

These include the type of dryer and load capacity you need. Other factors, like price, noise level, energy efficiency, and drying programs are also important considerations that can help you choose the right brand.

I know that considering all of these factors can feel a bit overwhelming. This is why we’ve created our dryer buyer’s guide (click here to read it!).

It will help you understand all the different factors involved in choosing a dryer, ensuring you make the best possible decision.

Dryer Brand Comparison Summary

I know this was a lot! This is why I want to take a moment to summarize everything we’ve discussed so far.

As you may remember, both customers and our expert (James Blackford), agreed that LG is the best dryer brand out there.

They seem to love their handy features and their drying performance. LG is also one of the favorite brands because it doesn’t require much maintenance and can last a long time. Plus, these dryers run quietly, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet while your clothes are drying.

It’s interesting to note that GE dryers have received high ratings in over 69,500 reviews, But, despite this, our expert doesn’t recommend buying this brand.

Although some people may like these dryers, James says they have lower-quality components and require more maintenance compared to other brands. So, it’s always a good idea to consider these mixed opinions before buying a GE dryer.

Don’t forget that there are other brands, such as Whirlpool, that can also be a reliable and safe choice.

Just keep in mind that the most expensive brand or the one with the most models isn’t necessarily the one with higher quality. There are tons of other factors you should keep in mind before deciding which brand to purchase.

This is why we created our complimentary dryers buyer’s guide that will help you dive deep into all the other important factors you need to consider. Our guide covers everything from load capacity and drying programs to noise level, and more.
